Disappearance

During the residency in Għarb, our collective was investigating elements that are disapparing from the island of Gozo – anything from soil, to legends, from language to landmarks. During this workshop for the pupils the theme of disappearance was addressed by using limestone, a material prominetely surrounding them. The children would grind their own pigments and mix an emolsion to paint on the school’s grounds. Being in touch with the stone that their home island is made of and being creative was an enriching experience of the ephemeral materiality of their place. After the workshop the children would wash away their paintings with water.
